Une cellule sait quand elle est assez grande pour se diviser grâce à la protéine Pom1, ancrée à ses extrémités.
Selon deux généticiennes de l’université de Lausanne qui ont étudié la levure Schizosaccharomyces pombes au coeur d’une petite cellule, Pom1 inhibe la division.
Mais quand la taille de la cellule dépasse 13 micromètres, le centre devient trop éloigné des extrémités, et le signal de Pom1 n’est plus assez fort : la division est déclenchée.

We know what releases the cell division
A cell knows when it is big enough to divide itself thanks to the protein Pom1, infuse to its extremities.
According to two geneticists of the university of Lausanne that studied the yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombes to the heart of a small cell, Pom1 inhibits the division.
But when the size of the cell surpasses 13 micrometres, the center becomes too far from the extremities, and the signal of Pom1 no longer strong: the division is released.

Diketahui penyebab sel membelah diri
Sebuah sel tahu saat ia sudah cukup besar untuk membelah berkat protein Pom1, yang ada di ujung sel.
Menurut dua ahli genetika dari Universitas Lausanne yang meneliti ragi di dalam inti sel Schizosaccharomyces pombes, Pom1 menghalangi pembelahan.
Tetapi saat ukuran sel melewati 13 mikrometer, pusat sel menjadi terlalu jauh dari ujung sel, dan sinyal dari Pom1 tidak lagi kuat : pembelahan terjadi.
